Use this screen to set up your NFL Pool and Survivor Pool for your league.
NFL Pool Type
None - Select this option if your league does not want to run an additional (free) pool.
Confidence - Choose this option to add a Confidence Pool whereby owners (1) choose the weekly NFL team winners of each matchup and (2) assign a unique, weighted point value (typically 1-16) for all games. Points are awarded only for picking the correct winning team and the franchise with the most points at the end of the season wins.
Pick'em - Select this simple variant of the Confidence pool to have owners just select the weekly winner of each NFL game in a basic NFL Pool The franchise that picks the most correct NFL winners over the course of the season wins. Specify a week other than "1" (the default) to start a new pool later in the season.
Use the start/end pull-down fields to specify the first and last weeks for the pool.
Allow franchise owners to make Survivor Pool Picks - Disable this setting (default set to "Yes") to prevent owners from selecting Survivor Pool picks. Use the start/end pull-down fields to specify the first and last weeks for the pool.
When finished, you MUST click on the Save Pool Setup button in order to apply your changes.
What is a Confidence Pool?
For those who aren't familiar with this idea, the general concept is that for each week of the season, you not only pick a winner of each NFL matchup, but you also assign a point value indicating your "confidence" of that being a winning pick. point values range from 1 to the number of games that happen in a given week of the season. in other words, a typical (non-bye) NFL week has 16 games, so you could assign point values from 1 to 16 for each of these games, and a given point value can be used only once each week.
for example, your picks for a week (assuming only 4 games being played) might look like this:
Colts over Broncos (4 points)
Packers over Vikings (3 points)
Rams over Seahawks (2 points)
Jets over Chargers (1 point)
That means you're most sure of your Colts pick, but least certain of your Jets pick. you then get a weekly point total based on your correct picks. continuing the above example, if the Colts, Packers, Seahawks and Jets win, you'd get: (4+3+1) 8 points for this week (you wouldn't get 2 points for the Rams pick, because they lost). Then your weekly point totals are summed up to arrive at a season-long point total for all franchises in your league.
To use this new feature for your league, just go to the "For Owners > NFL Pool Picks" option to submit your picks. Then, once the weekly games are over, you can view your results via a link from that page, too.
All pool picks only need to be submitted before kickoff of the game in question. In addition, picks are now only revealed to everyone after kickoff of the game in question. The game is marked with an asterisk if the picks has been made, but kickoff of the game has not passed. This will provide an easy way for anyone to see if others have made picks in their pool.
There is a home page module available on the Home Page Setup page called "NFL Confidence Pool Summary" that allows you to display your season-long confidence pool point totals on your league home page.
Since the league commissioner is typically an owner in a league, the commissioner cannot submit confidence pool picks, only owners can.
What is a Pick-em Pool?
A pick-em pool is just like a Confidence Pool above, except that you're only picking the winners of each game, and not assigning confidence values to each pick. In other words, for a typical, non-bye week of the NFL season, you'd get 16 points for picking all games correctly.
What is a Survivor Pool?
Each owner picks the winner of one NFL game for the upcoming week of the season. If he picks correctly, he goes on and can pick in the following week. If he picks incorrectly, he's out, and cannot pick in any subsequent weeks. An owner may only pick an NFL team once for the entire season.
Owners may submit their picks via the "For Owners > Survivor Pool" option on your league pages, and picks may only be submitted up until kickoff of the game in question.
Picks are hidden from view until kickoff of the last game of the week is over, to prevent people from seeing others picks, however, picks that have been made, but not yet displayable to others because of this rule, are displayed as an asterisk (*).
