Developer’s Program & A New Android Application.

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

One of the many things that we feel really differentiates MyFantasyLeague.com from other fantasy football league management sites is our developer’s program, which allows third-party developers to get access to MyFantasyLeague.com data in an industry-standard XML format.   This has allowed many folks to come up with some really creative add-ons to the core MyFantasyLeague.com product, including:

  • MFLHistory.com, which offers an amazing array of historical league reporting options.
  • FantasySharks.com, who offers their “draft coach” and “lineup coach” for customized recommendations on who to draft or who to start in your fantasy football league.
  • FanDraft, which allows you to have your in-person, off-line draft results automatically entered into your MyFantasyLeague.com league.

And starting this season, we’re happy to announce a new Android-based application, MyFantasyLeague.com Tracker.  This application is for Android-based cell phones, including the new Motorola Droid.  So, if you’ve got an Android phone, and want to check out this cool new application, look in the Android Market under the “Apps > Sports” section, or search Android Market for “myfantasyleague”,  or visit this web page.

And if you’re a third-party developer who would like to develop your own applications for MyFantasyLeague.com fantasy football leagues, be sure to check out our Developer’s Program for more details!

Trade Deadlines

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Some fantasy football leagues have an end-of-season trade deadline.  If your league does, you can enter a new “No Trades Allowed” calendar event on the “For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup” page.

In addition, new for the 2009 season is a home page module called “Countdown To Trade Deadline“.  You can add that to your league home page via the “Home Page Modules and Tabs Setup” page, so all owners in your league can easily see how much time they have left until your trade deadline.

New “Career Records” Report Available – Feedback Requested

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Effective today, you’ll see a new report available from the “Reports > Records” menu item called “Career Records”.  This new report details the career-long records for everyone in your league, including wins, losses, ties, winning percentage, total points scored, and more.

For now, we’re considering this a beta-level effort, which means that you may well find problems/errors with this report, or have ideas for how we can improve it.  So, if you do find problems, or have suggestions, feel free to let us know by opening a support ticket with us via your league’s “Help > Help Center” menu item.

New “Fantasy Preview” Report – Feedback Requested

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

We’re happy to announce a new site feature – a “Fantasy Preview” report.   Like our draft recaps and fantasy recaps, these are system-generated write-ups for your league – in this case, it’s a preview of fantatsy matchups in your league.  Here’s an example of one for week 9.  You can see the “Fantasy Preview” report for your own league using the “Reports > Franchise > Fantasy Preview” menu option.

We’re considering this a “beta” feature right now.  That means we hope that it’s almost ready for everyone to use, but there might still be some things that don’t look or work quite right yet.  If you find something that’s a little off, or have any suggestions or ideas for how we can improve this feature (or anything else on the site, for that matter!), feel free to submit a support ticket to us via the “Help > Help Center” menu item.

Enter Your Fantasy Football League History As Far Back As 1990!

Friday, November 6th, 2009

We’re happy to announce some new functionality on the MyFantasyLeague.com site – now, you can enter your league history back as far as the 1990 season!

To enter your historical league information, you have a few options:

  1. If you’d like to just enter league championship and award related items, you can do that via your “For Commissioners > Setup > History Setup > League Champions & Awards Setup” page – this is the quickest option, but only gets the most basic information into the site.
  2. If you happened to have a historical league in FFLM, you can follow these instructions for importing your historical league from FFLM to MyFantasyLeague.com.
  3. If you’re really motivated, and want to hand-enter detailed historical league information for a prior season, just go to the “For Commissioners > Setup > History Setup > General League History Setup” page, and you’ll see a link there allowing you to set up a historical league for any season, 1990 to present, on MyFantasyLeague.com

Hopefully you’ll find these new options useful for maintaining your full league history on MyFantasyLeague.com!

Prevent Owners From Submitting Lineups In Case Of An IR Violation

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

We’re happy to announce a new feature for fantasy football leagues that use Injured Reserve.  If you go to the “Injured Reserve Setup” page, you’ll see a field there called “In case of an IR violation, prevent owner from submitting lineup?”.  It defaults to “No”, which is the way that the site’s always worked – owners can still submit a lineup even if they have an IR violation.

However, if you change that option to “Yes”, that will prevent owners from submitting a lineup if they have an IR violation – for example, a player whose status has been upgraded from Out to Probable may now be in violation of your IR criteria and therefore the owner has to reactivate the player before the owner can submit their lineup.

As always, let us know if you have any questions regarding this new feature, or any other suggestions for improving the site.

Fantasy Football Receiver Targets

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

We’ve recently added a new stats columns to the “Top Performers/Player Stats” report in your fantasy football league.  Now as part of the Top Receivers report, you’ll see “Targets” as a column, such as this example from our sample league.  The column is labeled “Tgt” and as always you can click on the column header to sort by that stats.  So what is the target stat all about?  It’s the number of times a player was the intended receiver on a passing play.  It can be helpful to get a feel for which receivers (or tight ends or running backs) were most active in the passing game.  Even a player only had a couple of receptions, he may have had two or three times as many targets, which could point to some potential if/when they can turn those targets into catches.  Just another stat to help you make better lineup decisions.  Enjoy!  Note that you’ll also see this column now on the Player Profile page, such as this example.

New “Season Records” Report Available

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

If you’ve had a fantasy football league with us in prior seasons, you’ll be happy to see a new report available on your league pages today – “Season Records”. This new report, available under the “Reports > Records” menu, offers several season-long records, including:

  • Most/least wins, losses and ties in a season
  • Most/least total points scored, and total points allowed, in a season

So, check out this new report today, and let us know your thoughts on this. What other historical record reporting would you like to see on MyFantasyLeague.com? Let us know!

Rate My Team

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Now that your fantasy football draft is done, you’re probably wondering how well your fantasy football team will do this season.  You can find out at least one professional opinion with one click of the mouse from your Franchise Information page in your league.  To get there, just click on your franchise name from any report or screen in your league.  Then in the upper right you’ll see a link that says “FBG Rate My Team“.  Click on that link and you’ll be taken to the Rate My Team application, which was developed by footballguys.com this year.  It’s a great way to receive an in-depth analysis of your team, complete with recommendations about what you can do to improve your roster.  Since they worked with us to integrate the application into our leagues using our Developer’s API, it saves you the time of entering your league parameters, so you can get an analysis of your team very quickly.  And it’s free!  So check it out this opening weekend and enjoy the games!

Use LeagueSafe to Manage your League Finances

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Last year we teamed up with the LeagueSafe.com web site to help commissioners relieve themselves of one of the biggest burdens for commissioners…  collecting league dues before the draft and paying out league prizes after the fantasy playoffs.  Any commissioner knows about the annual nuisance.  You have to hound your team owners in the weeks leading up to the draft to make sure they remember to pay the annual league dues before the draft.  Then for the two or three owners that forget, you have to continue to nag them all season long until they finally pay up.  And it doesn’t end there. After the season is over, you have to figure out how to contact the winners and get them their prizes in a timely manner.

Enter LeagueSafe!  It was conceived and developed by Paul Charchian, who has been involved with fantasy football leagues for over 15 years as a radio show host and as a co-founder of Fanball.com.  So he has thought through the process thoroughly and came up with a great solution for leagues that want to have someone else manage their finances.  You can read a Wall Street Journal article about it, or read the Press Release for more information.

For leagues that want to take advantage of the LeagueSafe service, we’ve made it very easy to do with the new option under the “For Commissioners > Setup” screen called “Manage League Finances Using LeagueSafe“.  Just click on that option in your league and follow the steps on that screen, and then you’ll be all set.  You won’t have to worry about the hassle of collecting dues from your owners, and all of your owners will be able to rest easier knowing that their money is being held by an FDIC insured account, and that it will only be used for paying out the league prizes (and optionally the league hosting fee on MyFantasyLeague.com).

That’s the other great thing about this service.  If the commissioner doesn’t want to pay for the MyFantasyLeague.com league up front, he can designate that as an option when signing up for LeagueSafe.  Then when owners start paying their league dues, the cost of managing the league on MFL will be taken care of automatically as well.  Be sure to visit LeagueSafe.com for additional info or details.
